There are several structural characteristics of "The Open Window" that help create a feeling of surprise. One of them is how the author manipulates time. In order to do so, he uses flashbacks extensively. The best example is when Mr. Nuttel thinks of the words his sister said to him when he was about to go to the countryside. Through this flashback, we also learn that Mr. Nuttel has problems with his nerves.

The author also surprises us by not placing all the characters together at the same time. The fact that the aunt is upstairs and her husband is out allow for the surprise at the end to materialize.

Finally, the author builds the story with the expectation of a surprise, created through foreshadowing. However, he does not reveal what the surprise is until the very end, when it becomes inevitable.

Answer: "great, grey, stone wall", ''Sour smelling cement''

Explanation:

If we are trying to connect both the Berlin Wall picture and Inge's Wall (literary artwork) we must be aware of the story in that Inge's Wall is representing.

Inge's Wall story: In Inge's Wall, there is one wall with two sides, one side is unattainable and alive, unlike the other side where the main character Inge is living. Her side is grey, without color and lifeless. She discovered the bright side when she looked up through the one hole that she found on that wall and then she saw a different world, opposite of her own.

  • If we compare the phrases with the picture, we can see that the wall is great, grey and from the stone and sour smelling cement because that was her point of view in the novel.

Since we cannot see much more, we cannot tell if there are busy traffic or laughter and music on the other side of the wall.

Hi.
Butoxors [25]

Perhaps take from my answer. Sorry if this isn't good, i'm a bit tired. You can add on and change up the words. I was unsure what was exactly wanted for this.

Answer:

Hello, as the speaker of this, I say the motion is correct. Modern movies are run by acting and scripts, while people are off script and anything could truly happen. Younger people tend to leach from what they see on T.V. and from elders, thus certain movies may give them bad views. Say with common action movies: That would most likely give the person a taste of violence as an answer. Humans can be violent, but are not always fighting like how thrillers and action movies show. People do break out into fights, just not like that. If someone was trying to figure out how some commonly interact and behave from a movie, it wouldn't be a good choice, since that would provide the wrong view. Unless it's a documentary or educational film, modern movies do indeed give a bad model. It is understandable for others to have different opinions on this matter, this is my own. Thank you for your time.
