To persuade readers to eat greens for their health.

Explanation:

 • In this paragraph, the author is mentioning about the vitamins present in the green leafy vegetables. Addition to that, he is also mentioning about diseases like heart diseases and diabetes, which can be prevented by eating these vegetables.
 • So, this paragraph is not only informing about the vitamins in the leafy greens and dangerous diseases but giving an idea about the health benefits we will get from the green vegetables.
 • There is no place in this paragraph he entertains the readers, with his personal story about heart health.
 • Hence this author wrote this paragraph to persuade readers to eat greens for their health.

Compare and contrast letter to a young refugee from another and farewell to manzanar
abruzzese [7]

Letter to a Young Refugee from another and Farewell to Manzanar are both stories about struggles of families inside a refugee camp for the former and internment camp for the latter. In the “Letter to a Young refugee” which took place in Guam after the Vietnam war, Lam addresses another refugee he saw in the news to relate his previous experience. The theme is more like, “I know what you are going through.”

In “Farewell to Manzanar”, the main character went back to the old camp in Manzanar much later in her life to reflect on what used to be her life there as a displaced Japanese in America.

The following sentence has a misplaced modifier. Tired of studying and writing research papers, summer vacation came as a relief
Archy [21]

The sentence that sounds the best when you read it out loud is:

C. Summer vacation came as a relief to the student, who was tired of studying and writing research papers.

If you read all the sentences out loud they all sound weird except for this one.

Finish this simile: English class is like...
Law Incorporation [45]

English class is like receiving presents on your birthday

or

English class is like having to sit through a movie you didn’t want to see but will be tested on when it’s over.

Similes are comparisons using the words “like” or “as” in order to give readers a better sense of understanding when there may otherwise be little understanding or not the understanding a writer wishes to convey. What this means is that authors will compare something that may not be known to readers to something that most likely will be known in order to present the best image understood by the most readers. Because not everyone may have the same perspective of an English class as you, for instance, one way to convey an idea of what English class is to you, the use of a simile would work well. If you enjoyed your English class you might compare it to something you know your general audience enjoys and write something like “English class is like receiving presents on your birthday” because of how each day’s knowledge is wonderful surprising experience for you. If you hated English class, you might write something like English class is like having to sit through a movie you didn’t want to see but will be tested on when it’s over. As you can see the use of similes make writing more expressively.
