Answer:

Giuseppe Mazzini (1805-1872) founded the nationalist movement Young Italy (La Giovine Italia) while in exile in France in the 1830s. In his essay "On the Duties of Man" (1844), Mazzini singled out the requirements for launching a national Resurgence (Risorgimento) -- the struggle for Italian unification and its liberation from Austrian rule. On the one hand, Mazzini mixes a liberal concern for national self-determination with a desire for the betterment of working-class people. On the other hand, he set the goal of spiritual regeneration for the national community through the bonds of solidarity -- to serve as springs for social action, but it was also seen as key for the emancipation of humanity at large. Thus, the solidarity of the national community is the precondition for the solidarity of all nations. Virtue, as an individual ethical quality, was seen as requisite for the moral and political education of the Italian people. But by using this concept Mazzini was also hearkening back to the virtus that characterized the honor, industriousness, self-sacrifice, and moral fortitude associated with the ancient Roman republican citizen. In a sense, this was a bid to recreate the cultural and political vocabulary of the ancient Roman Republic while endowing it with new meanings for sustaining a modern republican state.

In a well-constructed response, explain how Carrie Chapman Catt, the author of “Address to Congress on Women’s Suffrage,” demons
Vika [28.1K]

Answer:

Find the explanation and details from the text below.

Explanation:

'Kairos' is a word with Greek roots and it connotes the idea of the opportune time or the right time for something to be done. Carrie Chapman Catt made extensive use of this type of speech in her address to Congress in November 1917. Below are details from the address to highlight this.

1.<em> "Woman suffrage is inevitable. Suffragists knew it before November 4, 1917; opponents afterward"</em>: Catt began her speech with the words above. The inevitability of the suffrage movement was something Catt knew would always happen for even though the proponents of the movement, knew this before her speech was delivered, opponents of it would soon come to realize it after her speech. She gave three reasons to back this idea. One of them would be mentioned below.

2. "<em>Second, the suffrage for women already established in the United States makes women suffrage for the nation inevitable".</em><em> </em>Catt here meant that it was time to institute women's suffrage because the United States is a  democratic nation, therefore, it is just not possible to have undemocratic policies applied to one section of the nation.

3<em>. </em><em>" "There is one thing mightier than kings and armies" -- aye, than Congresses and political parties -- "the power of an idea when its time has come to move." The time for woman suffrage has come.":</em><em> </em>This was a clear case of the use of Kairos by Catt for here she clearly stated that the time for women's suffrage which has been inevitable all along, had finally come.

Question 1
bearhunter [10]

Answer:

B. He has not earned enough money to spend on the upcoming holiday.

C. <em>“For Reuven the furrier it was a bad year, and after long hesitation he decided to sell Zlateh the goat.” </em>

Explanation:

Isaac Bashevis Singer's short story "Zlateh the Goat," tells the story of how a poor furrier's attempts to sell his prized goat to cover up the expenses he'd need for the upcoming Hanukkah. But with the sudden snowfall and the 'connection' that the goat and Aaron, the one responsible for delivering the goat to the butcher, the goat was saved and thus remained with the family.

At the beginning of the story, the narrator described how business was poor for the furrier, Reuven which led to the decision to sell the goat to the butcher. This will enable the family to have some money to spend on the Hanukkah festival. This implication is supported by the statement that Reuven <em>"decided to sell Zlateh . . ."</em> to buy gifts for the family and <em>"holiday necessaries"</em>.

Thus, the correct answer is option B for part A and option C for Part B.
