Answer:

thesis statement Geronimo became a bitter warrior after his family was attacked by José Maria Carrasco.

evidence The writer gathered evidence from Geronimo’s autobiography, which includes facts and anecdotes from his life. For example, Geronimo burned his belongings, his children’s toys, and two tipis after the Mexican attack.

structure The essay reads well, but it lacks the traditional structure of essays. Some irrelevant discussion is included as well.

strategies The writer uses a cause-and-effect strategy and an appeal to emotions (pathos). He argues that the cause was the Mexican attack on the Apache camp, which resulted in the death of his mother, wife, and three children. The effect was Geronimo becoming a ruthless warrior.

The appeal to emotions (pathos) comes in the description of the attack on Geronimo’s family. Rielly also describes Geronimo standing alone in a river after the attacks as a way of showing his state of mind after losing his family.

fallacies Edward Rielly’s article about Geronimo doesn’t seem to have many obvious logical fallacies.

overall quality This is a good essay. It focuses on providing solid supporting evidence, and it demonstrates clear cause-and-effect relationships.

How did Yun OK tame the tiger?
raketka [301]

Answer:After she explained, the old man didn't give any advice to her directly. He just asked her to bring him the whisker of a living tiger. Even though You Ok was frightened, she decided to do it. For several months, through her patience and persistence, You Ok got the tiger's whisker successfully.

The folktale "The Tiger´s Whisker" originates from Korea, and it is used mostly as a child´s tale. It narrates the story of Yun Ok, whose husband has changed drastically from a loving, and gentle man, to an irrascible one, thanks to the wars. In desperation, Yun Ok, goes to a hermit and asks for a potion. The man tells her that in order to do so, she must bring a whisker from a live tiger. Yun Ok does as she is told, and patiently gains the trust of a tiger, and gets the needed whisker. In the end, she finds out that the lesson the hermit wanted her to learn was that to regain her husband, she needed to apply the same technique she used on the tiger, and not a potion. Given this background, the answers would be thus:

1. A folktale is defined precisely as: A story that is often passed along by word of mouth from one generation to another. This is the correct answer.

2. In this question, the answer is: Her husband has become very distant since he returned from war. This is what is narrated in the story as the reason for Yun Ok´s husband´s estrangement.

3. The correct answer here is: He laughs at Yun Ok´s idea because he thinks she is foolish to believe that solving the problem with her husband could be so simple. Though not directly stated, the hermit does laugh in a way when he says to Yun Ok that healing her husband with a potion is not like taking care of an ear infection. And he makes her feel somewhat foolish for her request. But she insists and he gives in.

4. The answer to this question is: She decides that reconnecting with her husband is worth the risk. This is stated in the story when Yun, although afraid, still continues persistently to go after the tiger, always keeping in mind that all is for the benefit of herself and her husband.

5. The answer here is: She learns that through patience, she can win her husband´s trust and heart like she earned the trust of the tiger. This is the lesson she learns when the hermit burns the whisker and makes her reflect on how she was able to get it from a wild tiger, saying that a man cannot be fiercer, or more difficult, than a tiger.

6. The answer here is: She is patient and demonstrates perseverance by spending six long months, slowly getting the tiger to trust her before she plucks out his whisker. This is exactly what she does in the story. She spends every day of those six months, carefully gaining the tiger´s trust, until he allows her near, and then allows her to take his whisker.

Using the voice of one of the Spanish sailors trapped in Zaroff's cellar, write a message-in-a-bottle letter seeking help. Be su
AleksandrR [38]

Dear friend.

Imagine him receiving that message has been the only happiness in my life. I don't know you, nor do you know me, but if fate has allowed you to find my message, it's because you need to know about me and help, if not me, other victims like me.

I find myself trapped in the basement of the sadistic, mad, murderous General Zaroff. I arrived here after my ship wreck survived. I came in search of help, but I only received despair and panic. The general hunts me like an animal, plotting my death all the time. I can no longer sleep, and control my nerves, I live on the edge of insanity all the time and I believe that my days of life will be short if I remain here, or if I throw myself into the sea, trying in vain to escape my captivity.

I'm afraid of suffering at the hands of Zaroff, I'm afraid of a slow and painful death, but my biggest fear is that this rascal will get away with his actions.

Please take this letter to the authorities and help an unfortunate person like me.

What does rusesabagina mean when he says that words are powerful tools of life, that they "may be the only ones?"
storchak [24]
Paul Rusesabagina might mean that words have the power to make people act or react in a certain situations. Let´s take an example from his text, he asked the question "What had caused this to happen? Very simple: words" He is referring to a "cool" guy who ends up being a militar carrying guns so Paul blames his parents because he thinks that he might have been told "over and over again" how stupid he was, how he never would be attractive or physically fit. This was used to enforce the power of the elite. So this might be considered a clear case in which  due to words a person might decide his future. <span />
