The correct answer is Supported believed Alaska would provide valuable natural resources, while detractors felt it was too cold and too far away.

The annexation of Alaska was a controversial topic in Congress during the mid 1800's. The decision to add it to the United States as a territory was decided by one vote in Congress. The individuals who voted against the annexation felt it was a waste of time and money. They gave it nicknames like "Seward's Folly" (named after Secretary of State William Seward) and "Johnson's Polar Bear Garden" (After president Andrew Johnson who approved of the annexation).

Supporters believed Alaska would provide valuable natural resources, while detractors felt it was too cold and too far away.

Further Explanations:

The Alaska acquisition was the acquirement of Alaska by the US from the “Russian Empire”. The acquisition was formally done on 18th October 1867 concluded by a treaty confirmed by the US Senate and signed by Andrew Johnson.

Alaska was inhabited by Russian travelers during the 7th century, among which some settled down there permanently. After the Crimean war, Alexander II, Emperor of Russia showed interest in selling Alaska as he knew that he will not be able to prevent Britain or any other country from establishing its colony there. After the American Civil war, Secretary of State of the United States signed an agreement with Russian minister “Eduard de Stoeckl”, regarding the procurement of Alaska.

The decision of buying Alaska was not supported by everyone as it is a very cold place and was considered of no use for America.

The struggle for the independence Took place over many years although the actual word that achieved independence from Mexico was relatively brief. Write your own evaluation of Lincoln's speech in the space provided.
timurjin [86]
Regardless of generally circled stories in actuality, the president did not dash off a duplicate on board a prepare to Gettysburg. Lincoln painstakingly arranged his major talks ahead of time; his enduring, even script in each composition is predictable with a firm written work surface, not the famously rough Civil War-time trains. Extra forms of the discourse showed up in daily papers of the time, encouraging advanced disarray about the legitimate content.

kumpel [21]

Answer:

Yes

Explanation:

The phrase in this question is from the treaty made between Spain and Portugal in 1494. Even though it was centuries ago land continues to be divided in a similar fashion. Therefore, I believe that if a new planet were discovered today it's land would also be divided in the same way. The first group to discover would most likely claim it for themselves, a war would then break out for control, which would ultimately lead to a similar treaty being drafted and accepted dividing the land between the parties like it has always occurred.
