Answer:

a). 18 minutes

b). 8.4 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

a). Let Luis meet Kristina after the time = h hours

So the distance traveled by Luis in h hours = Speed × time

= 8×h

= 8h miles

If Kristin started after 45 minutes of \frac{45}{60} hours then the distance traveled by her

= Speed × time

= 28\times (h-\frac{45}{60}) miles

Since after h hours distances traveled by Luis and Kristin are same so,

28(h-\frac{45}{60})=8h

28h - 8h = \frac{28\times 45}{60}

20h = 21

h = 1.05 hours

So the time taken by Kristin = (h - 0.75)

= 1.05 - 0.75

= 0.30 hours ≈ 18 minutes

b). Distance traveled by Luis before Kristin catches Luis = 8×1.05

= 8.4 miles

Find the first three terms of the arithmetic series described.<br><br> a_1=1,a_n=19,S_n=100
Rudik [331]

Answer:

1, 3, 5

Step-by-step explanation:

The sum of an arithmetic series is:

S_n = n (a_1 + a_n) / 2

100 = n (1 + 19) / 2

n = 10

The nth term of an arithmetic sequence is:

a_n = a_1 + d (n − 1)

19 = 1 + d (10 − 1)

d = 2

The common difference is 2.  So the first three terms are 1, 3, and 5.

Using the power series methods solve the 1st order Lane-Emden Equation:
nikklg [1K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

xy = 2y + xy = 0

Hence, 2y + xy = 0 ---------(1)

Differentiating equation (1) n times by Leibnitz theorem, gives:

2y(n) + xy(n) + ny(n - 1) = 0

Let x = 0: 2y(n) + ny(n - 1) = 0

2y(n) = -ny(n - 1)

∴ y(n) = -ny(n - 1)/2 for n ≥ 1

For n = 1: y = 0

For n = 2: y(1) = -y

For n = 3: -3y(2)/2

For n = 4: -2y(3)
