Answer: A 50-yr old man who weighs 193lbs and has a resting heart rate of 70 beats . min-1 wants you to help him calculate his target heart rate zone for 60% to 80% VO2R. Use the Karoven (heart rate range) method to do so.

The answer is;

130 to 150 bpm

Explanation: HRmax= 220-50 = 170bpm

HRR= 170-70 = 100bpm

60% HRR: 100 × 0.6 = 60

80% HRR: 100 × 0.8 = 80

Target HR = % HRR + HRrest: 60+70 = 130 and 80+70 = 150

HRR- Heart rate range

HR- Heart rate

HRrest- Heart rate rest

HRmax- Maximum heart rate
