I think the selection that is more effective is 'A Modest Proposal' by Jonathan Swift because it tackled a larger issue. The satire was also delivered in a straight-faced manner which I believe should be the tone of satire. The way it was written made it appropriate to be read by the intended audience.

"The R-pe of the Lock" is an example of a Horatian satire. The purpose of Horatian satires is mostly to entertain and mock in a funny way. It focuses on the peculiarities of human behaviour, particularly when these seem nonsensical. It has not desire to provide social criticism or to motivate social change.

On the other hand, "A Modest Proposal" is an example of Juvenalian satire. This type of writing can also be humorous, however, its main objective is to criticize society. It is mostly led by indignation or outrage at a particular injustice. In the case of Swift, the injustice was the treatment of poor Irish people.

Although they are both effective for their purposes, "A Modest Proposal" is likely to have more impact in the world by encouraging people to improve society.

What does the author most likely mean in line 18 when
OLga [1]

Answer:

The notion of the phoenix probably means that love gives her hope for a change or better life. The phoenix symbolizes being recreated or reborn.

Explanation:

It is likely the author means that women often feel like love is their escape or that once they find a husband they can be reborn from having to succumb always to the wills of men in her life. A phoenix is a mythological bird that is reborn again after burning, emerging from the ashes as reborn. Love gives them hope for a time but then the "disturbed rest" and "painful signs" suggest that she suffers because of love as well. The entire poem laments the position of women at that time which was conceived as normally controlled by and subservient to men.

An author writes the following paragraph for an argumentative essay:
Wewaii [24]
The excerpt mainly focuses on the general idea that television has a bad influence on children, so I would say the best answer choice is "television has a bad influence on children." It doesn't focus too much on the three types of shows, but otherwise that would be the second best answer. Let me know which one is correct, but I believe it's B.
