This question is related to an interesting story called The Devil written by the famous Guy de Maupassant. Both La Rapet and Honore are the main characters of the story along with the ailing mother.  

La Rapet was a dishwashing woman. She only cared for money while Honore was a poor man. He could not afford a nurse for his mother. But La Rapet had ulterior motives. She wanted the woman to die as soon as possible for this she told her devil stories.
