This question is incomplete, here´s the complete question.

"I want the natives to develop a friendly attitude toward us because I know that they are people who can be made free and converted to out Holy Faith more by love than by force. I, therefore, gave red caps to some and glass beads to others. They hung the beads around their necks, along with some other things of slight value that I gave them...I wanted my men to take nothing from the people without giving something in exchange."

--Christopher Columbus, Log, October 12, 1492

b) Briefly explain what powerful group in Spain, OTHER than the monarchy, Columbus would be appealing to in the above passage.

A) Columbus claims that his aproach to the natives was meant to be friendly, as if converting them into Christianity and exchanging elements of slight value for what ever it is his men were taking from the indians was somehow an act of love.

Explanation:

B) Columbus´words would be appealing to the Catholic Church, whose leaders wanted to spread Christianity to the inhabitants of the New World.

Which sentence contains a misplaced modifier?
Dvinal [7]

Answer:

The answer is sentence number one.

Explanation:

Every word in a sentence has a meaning. Some of them modify the main word. Misplaced modifier is, as its name suggests, such a word modifying not the word its meant to, but a completely different word. Therefore it is misplaced in a sentence. This changes the meaning of a whole or a part of a sentence.

Having this in mind we see that phrase a gold man's watch from the first sentence has illogical meaning. So looking at this phrase we could interpret it as a watch that belongs to a gold man, which is highly unlikely. Usually a misplaced modifier is corrected by simply changing the order of the words, which means that in this case the phrase should say: man`s gold watch.

Other sentences from the text do not have ambiguous meaning such this.

. What can you infer about how Gandhi feels about passive resistance? Cite text evidence to support your response.
coldgirl [10]

Answer:

Gandhi likely agrees with passive resistance as the text states, “The consequence is not the progress of a nation but its decline …. No country has ever become, or will ever become, happy through victory in war. A nation does not rise that way; it only falls further. In fact, what comes to it is defeat, not victory. And if, perchance, either our act or our purpose was ill-conceived, it brings disaster to both belligerents.”

Consider how cultural diversity defines American society and literature. Is the American identity static or fluid over time? How
noname [10]

Answer:

The American society is composed of an ethnical mix, with members of many nations which blend into one unique American identity, while keeping their authenticity. This authenticity can be seen clearly in the cultural diversity. Just like any other identity, American is fluid over time. It changes and alters, in accordance with societal changes. Identities are not carved in stone. While we have every right to actively participate in the process of fashioning our identities, they still have a relative autonomy, and change over time. For example, if I am an Italian immigrant who lives in the U.S., I still have every right to claim my Italian cultural inheritance, but it doesn't make me less of an American. By living in America, I am adopting new cultural traits. My children will have their own perception of their cultural identity that doesn't have to be the same as mine.
