Europeans developed the economic system of mercantilism and needed reserves of gold and silver.

Shipping technology around the coast of Europe improved immensely, driven by the reality that shipping in ships prior to rail land transport was then hugely cheaper than land transport. Thousands of ships were plying their trade along the European coastline,  and innovations in rigging, hull design, navigation, armaments, and reserves of gold and silver were happening all the time.

An increasing population forcced Europeans to look for new lands to colonize.

European powers like Holland, England and France needed spce for their growing population and started to look for new maritime routes and new lands to colonize and send their people to stablish there.

What is the difference between a solstice and an equinox ?Using three or more complete sentences, describe the reasons why these
mrs_skeptik [129]
The biggest difference between a equinox and solstice is that a solstice is the point during the earths orbit around the sun at which the sun is at its greatest distance from the equator, while during an equinox, it’s at the closest distance from the equator. I’m a solstice the summers are longer, in equinox only happen 2 times a year when the earths axis is tilted.

Describe the development of the atomic bomb. Why were even the scientists who worked on the program skeptical about its effectiv
Norma-Jean [14]
It varies from country but I’ll focus on the US because they actually developed it first. It was a long and tedious process. This was all completely new and everything was theoretical. There were several small scale tests that were done at first that proved that it would be possible. The first bomb that would later be dropped on Hiroshima was made from uranium. The process of refining the uranium to make the bomb took a very long time especially because the ordinary factory workers that refined it didn’t actually know what they were doing. The second bomb that was made out of plutonium and would be dropped on Nagasaki was much quicker to produce but much harder to find plutonium to use. The majority of the scientists that spearheaded the bomb in Las Almos New Mexico didn’t even know exactly what they were making. They all worked on separate projects and then a few of the top scientists like Robert Oppenheimer would focus on assembling the various projects into an actual working bomb. In summary it was an incredibly secret project and took a very long time because it was something that had never been done before. The scientists who worked on it were skeptical because at first they thought of it just as an experiment and a scientific breakthrough. Then when the first test happened and it was revealed what this bomb could really do the scientists truly realized what they had created. It did so much damage and because of that they started to become skeptical of their creation. It would kill (and did) millions. As Oppenheimer would later put it after the bombing of Hiroshima to president Truman, “I have the blood of millions on my hands.”

Anyway I hope this helped. If this is for a school and you just need an answer that’s fine but if you are interested about this in general I recommend “Bomb” by Steve Shienken. It’s a good book and very factual and interesting.

In two or three paragraphs, compare and contrast the points of view of Wilson, Clemenceau, and Lloyd George at the Paris Peace C
Agata [3.3K]

Here is what i wrote for my essay:

World War I was settled by the victors at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919. The “Big Four,” who made all the major decisions, were President Woodrow Wilson of the United States, Prime Minister David Lloyd George of Great Britain, George Clemenceau of France, and of least importance, Italian Prime Minister Vittorio Orlando. Each major power had its own agenda coming to the Conference and not every aim was represented in the final treaties.

Wilson, Clemenceau, and Lloyd George all had different points of view at the Paris Peace Conference. For instance, lloyd George of Britain wanted to build a postwar Britain "fit for heroes". British aims at the conference were focused on securing France, settling territorial disputes, and maintaining their colonial holdings. Clemenceau of France wanted to weaken Germany so it could never threaten France. Having witnessed two German attacks on French soil in the last 40 years, France’s main concern was to ensure Germany would not be able to attack them again, so they pushed to weaken Germany militarily, strategically, and economically. Wilson of the U.S. wanted "peace without victory" with his fourteen points. The Americans’ vision was set out in Wilson’s Fourteen Points, which emphasized free trade, self-determination, and the founding of a League of Nations to support territorial and political independence of member nations.
