Early English literature was written in Old English, which is vastly different from Modern English. Often, these texts are trans

lated into more accessible language for modern readers. When reading these older forms of English, it can be difficult to understand the meaning, even if the language has been modified. In your opinion, what makes this literature so difficult to read? Is it the vocabulary, the characters, the type of storytelling, the density of the language, or something else? As you progressed through Old English texts to Middle English to Modern English, how did your understanding of the literature change? Can you explain what caused the change?

Answer: The vocabulary is more difficult to understand.

Explanation: Because the literature of the old English is more complicated. It is almost never to the point. The metaphors are harder to understand because of the culture this changes when the times become closer to the English now.

Explanation:

According toaccording to your first question that you said and in your opinion which make this literature so difficult to read is it the vocabulary the characters the type of trying the density of the language it is because of the density of the lanuage, because the language they use then is quite denser and different from the one we are using today. as you know as we move on from generation to generation, things are being simplified due to the development of technology and the rest.

And also your second question looks similar to the first one. As you read from Old english, tou find some words strange and even quite logical, difficult to pronounce, e.g this word, thou, this is due to the time and era in which the've lived, thats the kind of languages and assents they use.But as you move to Middle english, oh, now things are starting to get simpler, you see, it goes like that, you can understand some words, but some looks trivial. It goes like that, things changing gradually,as you move, until you get to the Modern english, where everything is fully clear. So this changes are as a result of the time, generation and era in which different catefiries of people have lived, are living and will live in the future.

I hope you will find this really helpful.

B. They employ figurative language

Both of these excerpts engage the reader by making the text come alive. The first employs a metaphor when it says "<span>In other words, he took the tortillas out of his poetry, which is to say he took the soul out of his poetry". This metaphor is comparing the heritage in his friend's writing to a tortilla which then he extends into comparing to their souls.
The second piece employs imagery and personification when he describes "</span><span>the tall American trees were dangling their thick branches right down over his head", showing that the trees are coming alive to show his friend that they are part of his heritage.</span>

Read this passage from chapter 5 of The Prince.
mixas84 [53]

Answer:

1: The first sentence lists specific conditions followed by what might eventually happen.

3: The second sentence starts with the expression “for this reason.”

4: The second sentence lists potential consequences of the situation described.

Explanation:

"The Prince" (1532) is a political treatise by Niccolo Machiavelli (1469-1527) who was an  Italian diplomat, politician, historian, and political philosopher.

The Chapter 5 of the book is "Conquered Free States, with their own laws and orders"

Option 1 might or might not be a cause-and-effect structure. It might not necessarily be cause-and-effect structure. Two events happening one after and other does not show that the first one is the cause and the second one effect. But, it is also true that in cause-and-effect structure one event (result) happens followed by another event.

Option 3 is correct because it clearly shows a cause-and-effect structure <u>(for this reason).</u>

Option 4 is correct because the events stated in the second sentence are the consequences (effect/result) of the situations described in the first sentence.

Option 2 is not cause-and-effect structure. "On the one hand" and "on the other hand" is used to describe two parallel and contrasting ideas. Hence, it is a contrasting structure.

Option 5 is not a cause-and-effect structure because the phrase <em>"citizen of the conquered city"</em> in no way shows the cause and effect of any situation
