Answer:

a) The dependent variable is defined as the variable that is being tested. The dependent variable here is the percentage of children who collected extra candy.

b) The data does not support the hypothesis 1 of the psychologist which states that the children would take more candy when they were alone. In the graph, percentage of children that took extra candy was higher when they were in group than when they were alone.

The data supports the hypothesis 2, which states that the children would take more candy when they were masked. From the graph, the percentage of children who took extra candy was higher when they were masked than when when they were unmasked.

c) The psychologist cannot generalize her findings to all children because she didn't use a random sampling procedure and she used children only from her neighborhood which doesn't represent the general population of children.

d) This study is not a naturalistic behaviour because the psychologist is dealing with subjects. She may also choose to manipulate the variables. Therefore we cannot call this study a naturalistic behaviour.

e) Modeling: This may play a role in the children's behaviour because the children may try to imitate what others did. The children may take extra candy because they saw others collecting extra candy.

Deindividuation: Here, the children's behaviour may be influenced by a feeling of anonymity. The children may take extra candy because they feel anonymous. Deinvuduated children feel anonymous due a feeling of loss of identity.

This explains why the percentage of chidren who took extra candy when in group was higher than that of the children who were alone.

Maddie's nominal income was $33,000 in 2012. In 2013, because of her excellent work ethic, she received a raise that increased h
Trava [24]

Answer:

-6.7 %; Hurt

Explanation:

1. Calculate Maddie's inflation adjusted income

\text{Inflation adjusted income} = \text{2012 income} \times \dfrac{\text{2013 CPI}}{\text{2012 CPI}}\\\\= 33 000 \times \dfrac{125}{110} = \$37 500

Maddie should be earning $37 500 in 2013 just to keep up with inflation.

2. Calculate the percent change in Maddie's real income.

Maddie is "real" salary is only $35 000.

\text{\% Change} = \dfrac{\text{real - expected}}{\text{expected}} \times 100 \, \%\\\\= \dfrac{35 000 - 37 500 }{37 500} \times \, 100 \% = \dfrac{-2500}{37 500} \times 100 \, \% = \mathbf{-6.7 \, \%}

The percent change in Maddie's real income is -6.7 %.

Maddie was certainly hurt by this inflation.

In an effort to balance free speech rights with the need to create safe learning environments for a diverse group of students, s
zzz [600]

Designated free-speech zones are also becoming commonplace at certain public events, particularly those attended by high-ranking government officials, because of security concerns.

At the 2000 Democratic National Convention held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, police set up a “secured zone,” which could be entered only by those with an actual convention ticket, and a “demonstration zone,” which was the only place protesters were allowed to demonstrate.

Several groups of protesters filed for a preliminary injunction in federal court, which it granted. The court held that the secured zone comprised sidewalks and streets, which constituted a traditional public forum. The court further held that the planned regulation was not narrowly tailored and did not provide adequate alternative means of communication,

because at all times it kept demonstrators too far away from their intended audience — convention attendees. The court significantly noted that “banning speech is an unacceptable means of planning for potential misconduct.”Free speech zones are areas set aside in public places for the purpose of political protesting. The First Amendment to the United States Constitution states that "Congress shall make no law ... abridging ... the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." The existence of free speech zones is based on U.S. court decisions stipulating that the government may reasonably regulate the time, place, and manner – but not content – of expression.

The Supreme Court has developed a four-part analysis to evaluate the constitutionality of time, place and manner (TPM) restrictions. To pass muster under the First Amendment, TPM restrictions must be neutral with respect to content, be narrowly drawn, serve a significant government interest, and leave open alternative channels of communication. Application of this four-part analysis varies with the circumstances of each case, and typically requires lower standards for the restriction of obscenity and fighting words.

The purpose of free speech zones is to protect the safety of those attending the political gathering, or for the safety of the protesters themselves. Critics, however, suggest that such zones are "Orwellian" and that authorities use them in a heavy-handed manner to censor protesters by putting them literally out of sight of the mass media, hence the public, as well as visiting dignitaries. Though authorities generally deny specifically targeting protesters, on a number of occasions, these denials have been contradicted by subsequent court testimony. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has filed, with various degrees of success and failure, a number of lawsuits on the issue.

Networks of exchange often helped to transport goods and cultures around the world as well as religious belief. These religions had huge impacts on an empire's growth as most supported or had a main religion in which they would try to spread. Though there are many empires as well as states within them that were heavily religious, there are a few main ones that can represent how belief systems affected their growth. These representations can be found as the Ottoman Empire and the Roman-to-French Empire.

The Ottoman Empire was very prosperous during the period circa 1300 and in the following centuries, though it reached its height under Suleiman the Magnificent, who reigned in the period 1520-1566. Religion was very important in the Ottoman Empire and it had a great influence on the various activities during its rule. Economy and Education were two of the many things that religion had an influence on and impacted. It was inspired and sustained by Islam and Islamic institutions. This use of  religious belief, specifcally Islam, changed the social classes and their order of heiarchy. Religion allowed for a very strong social structure and eventually a type of bureaucracy system in which state-officials could have control over the people while simultaneously sharing the same faith and trust in their God. A few specific states that helped to the contribution of the Islamic belief was Syria and parts of Arabia, these places were well known, especially on the Silk Road, for its devotion and knowledge of Islam. Those who were within the Ottoman Empire were devoted and dedicated to their belief, so much so that when the empire conquered territories the surrounding villages were required a specific quota of boys to be sent as tribute to the military to be warriors. The boys were generally taken from the Balkan provinces or encompassing states, converted to Islam, and then passed through a series of examinations to determine their intelligence and capabilities. By the end of the 15th century, the Ottoman Empire relied heavily on the expansion and conversion of Islam that included much of the territory where Islam was practiced.

Just as the Ottoman Empire was widely based on religion, so was the Roman Empire. Trade routes, specifically the Indian Ocean routes, and Missionaries are some of the factors that lead to spread of many religions, most of which were Buddhism, Islam, and Christianity. Between 1200 and 1450, regional kingdoms of France, England, and the Holy Roman Empire became solidified. In the beginning, each power was tied to the Catholic Church and feudal. Although, eventually the protestant reforms marked a break in Christian traditions and eventually led to its growth. The predominantly Christian Europe, particularly the Roman Empire, saw the spread of Islam up the Iberian peninsula as a threat. As a counteractant, the empire heavily enforced Christain as its belief system as well as into its whole social structure, as the church was mainly the ruler of the empire. Although some states, like England and France eventually broke off from the empire, they still carried the Roman Empire’s structure and religion which helped it grow for a while. As for France in their religious justifications and beliefs, they used the Divine Right of Kings which helped to solidify the absolute monarchs of these states, these monarchs were rulers who had specific laws that stayed within that conformed to Christain ideals but also gave them control and power over their subjects. Christains were devoted as well but very strict when it came to their laws, so these conforming rules helped to keep the people in line with the monarchs.

While the Ottoman, Roman, and then France Empires beliefs systems were mostly different, their policies were similar as they all conformed to a religious structure. As well as control of education and activities based on their religion and what they thought was true or holy unto their Gods. The use of religion helped to create strong community bonds, reinforce social stratification, and allow rulers to justify their reign.
