The key term in London’s essay is “drift.” How does London develop this term and its meaning?
Ulleksa [173]

According to London, the quintessential force that has driven man to survive and wander, or drift, is food. He states that man has drifted since prehistoric times in search of food:

The history of civilisation is a history of wandering, sword in hand, in search of food… It has always been so, from the time of the first pre-human anthropoid crossing a mountain-divide in quest of better berry-bushes beyond, down to the latest Slovak, arriving on our shores to-day, to go to work in the coal-mines of Pennsylvania. These migratory movements of peoples have been called drifts, and the word is apposite. Unplanned, blind, automatic, spurred on by the pain of hunger, man has literally drifted his way around the planet.”

He states that it is hunger, not romance or adventure, that fuels man’s need to drift.

Write an essay of at least 150 words describing one of the main themes of "A Wedding Gift." Use details from the story to suppor
Leno4ka [110]

Answer:

The theme chosen for the rehearsal was: The importance of the wedding gift for Indian culture.

Explanation:

Wedding gifts are a very important point to highlight in the most different cultures in the world. In all regions, this type of gift is very welcome and while some countries, the gift does not have to be something thought out, elaborated (and sometimes not even given), in India it is taken very seriously.

For the Indians, the wedding gift means a lot to the bride and groom and always has to be given an object that is very useful and functional that helps in domestic life and brings beauty to the home.

Plates, cutlery, glasses, furniture are the most prominent wedding gifts in this culture. This says a lot about the affection and care that guests have with the bride and groom. This indicates that the guests want to help with domestic life.

This vision of the present is very beneficial because it avoids the economic expense and the purchase of expensive, garish things that are useless, besides occupying space and dust. In addition, gift-giving narrows the bonds between families and friends, which is one of the most important bonds we have.

Concerns about the adoption of Western culture among youth and adolescents.

Response to the article "Western influence on youth today"

Dear Editor,

In reading the article and evaluating the influence of Western culture in our society, especially among young people and adolescents, I could not help noticing how it can be harmful to our society.

With the intense adoption of factors of Western culture by our youth, I am concerned that our own culture and customs are abandoned and forgotten over time. With that in mind, I believe that the best way is to make the concepts of our culture attractive to young people in our society, mainly through articles and artistic presentations, which not only show the value of our culture, but show young people how important it is respect and admire cultures from other regions without abandoning ours.
