Formal diction
Douglass's use of the words "severe trial" and "departure", as well as his sentence structure shows a more formal diction. He is basically saying nothing stopped him from leaving. However, he uses much more formal diction. Imagery is the creation of images in the reader's mind through description. There are no images in the reader's mind from this excerpt. There are also no elements of sentiment in the passage or subjectivity.
O'Connor chooses to have the family stop at the filling station and meet Red Sammy B. to provide further detail about Red Sammy. This event is taken<span> from a short story titled "A Good Man is Hard to Find" written by Flannery O'Connor in 1953. This short story focus on each of the character's behavior through the story.</span>
In the letter sent to President Eisenhower on May 13th of 1958, Jackie Robinson,a civilrights advocate, refers to the treatment the African American community has been suffering. This particularly refers to the opression and segregation imposed upon African Americans. The reason for this,is that segregation was the key point of the racial tension in the mid 20th century.
