At one of New York’s traffic signals, if more than 17 cars are held up at the intersection, a traffic officer will intervene and

direct the traffic. The hourly traffic pattern from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. mimics the random numbers generated between 5 and 25. (This holds true if there are no external factors such as accidents or car breakdowns.) Scenario Hour Number of Cars Held Up at Intersection A noon−1:00 p.m. 16 B 1:00−2:00 p.m. 24 C 2:00−3:00 p.m. 6 D 3:00−4:00 p.m. 21 E 4:00−5:00 p.m. 15 F 5:00−6:00 p.m. 24 G 6:00−7:00 p.m. 9 H 7:00−8:00 p.m. 9 I 8:00−9:00 p.m. 9 Based on the data in the table, what is the random variable in this scenario?\

The random variable is the number of cars held up at the intersection.

A random variable is one whose value is aleatory, then you can not know anticipatedly the outcome for sure. In this case, the number of cars held up at the intersection may be different at any time inside the range given and you cannot know the number of cars that there will be in a future moment.

Explain how to resolve this problem. there are 13 books.some books cost $9 each and the rest cost $8 each. A total of $108 spent
Katen [24]
X=one type that cost 9
y=one type that cost 8

total books=type1+type2
total books=13
x+y=13

the total cost=cost of each added together
cost of each=number of books times cost per book
total cost=108
9x+8y=108

we have
x+y=13
9x+8y=108
solve for x and y

multiply first equation by -8 and add to first equation
-8x-8y=-104
9x+8y=108 +
x+0y=4

x=4
subsitute
x+y=13
4+y=13
minus 4
y=9

4 of the $9
9 of the $8

thats how to solve

If henry were to add 5 gallons of water to a tank that is already 34 full of water, the tank would be 78 full. how many gallons
taurus [48]
Please express those fractions properly: 3/4, 7/8.

Let g be the # of gallons the tank could hold when full.

Then (3/4)n + 5 = (7/8)n.

solving for n: Mult all 3 terms by the LCD (8): 6n + 5(8) = 7n.

Then n=5(8) = 40 (gallons). The tank would hold 40 gallons of water were it full.

Write the numbers in order from greatest to least 7/10, 0.888, 3/5, 0.27
kvasek [131]
It would be
.888,7/10,3/5,.27
what you would do is convert 7/10 and 3/5 into a decimal to see what order you would place them and 7/10 as a decimal is .7 and 3/5 to a decimal is .6 so .888 is greater then it will be 7/10 then 3/5 then .27
