Began a period of great antagonism between the crown and the colonies
Irina18 [472]

The question should be "What began a period of great antagonism between the crown and the colonies?"

Answer and Explanation

After the French and Indian war, various colonies claimed the right to expand their boundaries as far as River Mississippi River due to their fast increasing population and the need for more land to enhance settlement.

The crown, typically the British government, wanted to restrict the settlements of the colonies to ensure that they had full royal control over existing settlements before the formation of new ones are allowed. The crown then attempted to forcefully put a stop to the western land claim of the colonies and eradicate expansion to the west. The colonies saw this as an encroachment on their rights to settle westwards.

1.2.6 practice: comparing governments
Murljashka [212]

Japan is a constitutional monarchy, in other words, they have a cabinet that is led by a Prime Minister, who is elected by popular vote. The emperor of Japan has moderate influence over the nation's affairs.

North Korea is governed by a communist regime, which is led by Kim Jong-un, who is considered as the "supreme leader" of the country. He succeeded his father Kim Jong-il and one of his children will eventually claim the leadership of the country once he passes away.

The Philippines is a constitutional republic, which elects the President by popular vote. This president must leave the post after his legal tenure is over.

Regarding people's freedoms, North Korea offers the least of this right to its citizens, as they all are assigned predefined tasks and roles within society. The Japanese have followed a philosophy of government that goes back to centuries, with the emperor taking the important decisions. The Philippines has had regimes that follow different ideologies throughout time. Although being the people's will, it may hinder the country's vision as for how it sees itself in the future, as successive leaders with different ideas tend to replace policies, including those who were doing well.

The article cites two arguments about the "economic miracles"
8090 [49]

Answer:

The German and the Japanese economic history of the post war years is considered to be an "economic miracle" for two main reasons:

  • Both countries were devastated after the World War II. Japan and Germany were losing countries, and had to surrender incoditionally to the allies (United States, the Soviet Union, France, and Britain), after having their cities, countryside, and infraestructure bombed and destroyed. Some cities had to be rebuilt almost from scratch, and this obviously made it harder to propser economically.
  • The two countries quickly recovered and began to grow economically at an spectacular pace. For example, by the 1960s, only 15 years after the end of the war, Japan was growing at a pace of over 10% per year, and Germany was growing almost as much. This enormous economic growth only a few years after having been devastated, helped Germany and Japan become developed nations in only two decades.
