The Antebellum Cottonocracy was known as the period of the "Cotton Boom" in the south. This good's value was increasing as the demand for it overseas started to grow. This period also coincided with "The Gilded Age", which was a period of great economic growth and many demographic changes, as the United States received a great number of immigrants coming majorly from Europe.
Cotton businessmen had great influence over the southern state as their economic power rose. Slavery continued to be a key factor in the growth of the industry, as enslaved people would be used as workforce along with technological developments in order to increase the production.

Northrup describes slaves having to open their mouths to be inspected. Buyers would inspect the bodies of slaves looking for marks or physical attributes they needed in a slave. The process includes cleaning up slaves to help improve the value.
Hitler and Mussolini both used a number of physical and rhetorical tactics to appear powerful to their listeners. Both offered, in their aggressive use of body language and booming voices, a certain measure of machismo and confidence when delivering speeches. Both also appealed to the desires, fears, and needs of their listeners. Hitler and Mussolini, in addition, used historical examples--however faulty they might have been--to support their assertions.
