MacGregor’s main purpose in providing the quote is to
Marysya12 [62]

Answer: A. Explain why the only upper classes could afford to drink tea

Explanation:

In the excerpt, McGregor introduces a history of tea, and mentions important historical figures - such as Queen Anne - that drank it. He later mentions Samuel Johnson, a distinguished English writer, who considered himself "a happy addict." What McGregor wanted to achieve by this is to point out that tea consumption first started in the upper class - other people could not afford it.

In at least one hundred words, explain why Animal Farm was NOT an initial success in Britain?
AleksandrR [38]

Answer and explanation:

Animal Farm was not an initial success in Britain because of the critics it represented. The author, George Orwell, wrote it during the Second World War. In the novel Orwell criticizes soviet leader Iósif Stalin and Russian’s totalitarianism. During that time, Britain and Russia were allies and no one wanted to be attached to a criticism of Russia.

In addition, George Orwell was a Trotskyist, which emphasized that he did not support Stalin. Publishers did not take that risk and rejected the novel.

In 1945 the novel was finally published by Frederic Warburg, but it was not known by the public until late 1950s.
