Answer and Explanation:

As we know, an adjective is a word that modifies a noun or a pronoun by attributing a quality to it. Let's focus on each sentence at a time:

- The monstrous shuttle pitched forward slightly, then rocked back. --> <u>According to the number in parentheses, we only have one adjective here. In that case, it can only be </u><u>monstrous</u><u>, indicating the quality of the shuttle, its appearance.</u>

- Over seven million pounds of thrust pushed the anxious men upward. --> <u>According to the number in parentheses, we have two adjectives here. Numbers are usually adjectives. In this case, the number we have is </u><u>seven million, </u><u>and it is modifying the noun "pounds". Besides that, </u><u>anxious</u><u> is also an adjective, modifying the noun "men".</u>

<u />

- The solid-rocket booster engines lit, and the shaking roar told the astronauts they were entering outer space. --> <u>Now, we are supposed to have four adjectives in the sentence. The noun "engines" is being modified by two adjectives: first by </u><u>solid-rocket</u><u>, then by </u><u>booster</u><u>. The next adjective is </u><u>shaking</u><u>, modifying the noun "roar". Finally, we have </u><u>outer</u><u>, modifying the noun "space".</u>

The correct matches are as follows:

1. FREE WRITING: Writing down first thoughts on a topic in a timed session, without pausing to check for relevance or grammar.

Brain storming is the process by which creative ideas and solutions are generated via intensive group discussion. There are lots of techniques that can be used during brain storming sessions and three of them are pre writing, clustering and three perspectives.

Free writing is a pre-writing method that involves continuous writing of thoughts and ideas for a set period of time without any regard for spelling, grammar, logical procession, punctuation, or structure; during this time one allow his thoughts to flow freely. Free writing produces the raw materials that are used for developing usable ideas. Pre writing is very useful in helping one to put down ideas that one has not considered previously.

2. CLUSTERING: Connecting ideas for a topic using different shapes and color-coding to identify how the ideas are related.

Clustering is another technique that is used during brain storming session. It involves writing down keywords or phrases that are relevant to one’s topic of interest and using drawn lines to identify the connections that exist among them. This method allows one to brainstorm in a visual manner.

3. THREE PERSPECTIVES: Describing the topic, tracing its history, and examining its connections with related topics.

Three perspectives is another method that is used during brain storming session. Considering a thing from three different sides help one to see it more completely and clearly. This method involves answering questions for each of the three perspectives considered and then looking for relationship or differences that exist among them. To do this, one has to describe the topic in detail, trace the history of the topic and find out how the topic relate to others.

(D) That Leila is shocked at what the driver of the convertible did

Incredulous is defined as being "unwilling to admit or accept what is offered as true". If we analyze the sentence carefully, we can sort of make out how she feels, but if we completely remove the word from the sentence and input something we can understand a little easier, such as:

<em>"...</em><u><em>incredibly surprised</em></u><em> that he would stop traffic just to yell at another driver behind him."</em>

We can see that it fits right in.

Lastly, look at the word itself. It has a lot in common with "incredible" which is a much more commonly used word, knowing that it means "too improbably to be believed". This is one of the best methods for finding out the meaning to words we don't know. It won't be perfect 100% of the time, but in most cases it works.
