Answer:

D.

Explanation:

Epic simile can be defined as an extended simile which runs over several verses in an epic poetry. It is also known as Homeric simile. This device is used to compare one action with the other action in epic poetry. In the epic of Beowulf, epic simile is used extensively.

When the poet describes the beam of wood that Beowulf has found, it can be compared picturized like the mast of an enormously large ship based on epic simile.

The lines from the epic <em>'And it was like a mast /a lugger of twenty oars, broad in the beam— /a deep-sea-going craft—might carry: /so long, so big around, it seemed.'  </em>suggests that the size of the beam is enormous as that of a ship.

Thus the correct option is D.

In at least 150 words, discuss whether or not Fredo is a believable character. Explain why you think as you do, and use details
Troyanec [42]

If by Fredo, you mean Fredo Corleone I think he is a believable character.

He has many characteristics that are needed in a novel. For a start, he was  treated as the baby of the family because of a out of pneumonia as a child and he is considered weaker and less intelligent than his siblings.

He is also considered the black sheep of the family as he loves being part of the Corlene family and what it comes with it ( money and women) but he doesn't like the responsabilities that come with the name.

He craves respect but he doesn't earn it as his siblings and father are continously covering for his mistakes.

"Editha" by William Dean Howells is a story about characters who ritualistically follow the popular beliefs and norms of society
oksian1 [2.3K]

Answer:

It was very low inside the house, and so dim, with the closed blinds, that they could scarcely see one another;

Her father standing decorously apart with his hat on his forearm, as at funerals; a woman rested in a deep arm-chair, and the woman who had let the strangers in stood behind the chair.

<em>Editha</em>, by William Dean Howells, is an antiwar story published in 1905. Its characters are people who greatly value custom and ritual, even when it is objectively inconvenient or awkward for them to do so.

The two chosen lines exemplify that character trait. In the first sentence, the house has the blinds closed, as was common for houses where the family had recently experienced a loss or a tragedy. This rule is followed, even though it meant that the characters were barely able to see each other.

The second sentence has a similar example, as Edith's father stands at a distance and with his hat in his hands. We are told this is the way it is done at funerals, which is consistent with the previous sentence and with the character's personality traits.
