Sharon was hospitalized when she cut her wrists in an attempted to hurt herself. While in the hospital, she was most deeply depressed, with occasional bouts of excessive cheerfulness. This would be bipolar 1 disorder.
The bipolar 1 disorder is a mental illness known as manic depressive disorder or manic depression. Patients that suffer this disorder have a period of elevated mood -not normal- and abnormal behavior. After that elevated period, they suffer from depression. That is the mental cycle they live.
