So who dreams up video games? They're the people who work in video game design. And guess what? The world is going to need a lot more of them. Video game design is one of America's fastest-growing career fields. In fact, the number of people in the field will rise by more than 20 percent by 2028.

If you like vibing with video games—and you enjoy collaboration—you might consider this up-and-coming field. There are three main specialties within the field. That means there are three main types of specialists: video game designers, video game artists, and video game programmers.

Video Game Designer

Video game designers come up with ideas for the games. They create everything from the mission players must complete to the game's strategy.

Job Spotlight

Video game designers often have a college degree in game design or creative writing.
They must be creative and good at managing projects.
Game designers develop stories and create characters.
They use storyboards and flow charts to map out what will happen in a story.
Video Game Artist

Who develops the eye-popping artwork in video games? That would be video game artists.

Job Spotlight

Video game artists usually have a college degree in art, often in video game art.
They often learn traditional art methods. They also gain skills in computer animation software.
Game artists develop all the artwork. That includes characters and environments.
They animate game characters and other moving parts using 2D or 3D software.
Video Game Programmer

Video game programmers are the tech wizards who create the code. They turn ideas and artwork into virtual worlds.

Job Spotlight

Video game programmers usually need a college degree in software engineering, or a degree related to programming.
They must have an understanding of programming languages, such as Java and C++.
Game programmers write the computer code. This code makes the game work. It controls difficulty levels, how players move, and other parts of the game.
They develop the game "physics," which defines how objects behave within the game.
Many people in all three of these specialties share something important: they love playing video games. Companies like to hire serious gamers because they recognize great gameplay when they see it. If you love playing video games, maybe you can become a video game pro.

the weapons act without bias

The things that are falling are bombs. The bombs do not care what they hit. They do not have a preference for roads, roofs, thickets, or people. The bombers drop them with a specific target line up, but the bomb does not care what that is. This adds to the overall tone and mood of the poem.
