c) A US reconnaissance plane discovered missiles being installed in Cuba. (The discovery was made October 15, 1962.)

e) US president John F. Kennedy ordered the US Navy to form a barrier around Cuba.

f) US president John F. Kennedy demanded an end of the secret operation. (In an October 22, 1962, speech, Kennedy announced to the nation the naval blockade he had ordered and announced to the Soviet Union his demand that they stop their operation and remove their missiles.)

d) US president John F. Kennedy promised to not invade Cuba and to dismantle US missiles that were installed in Turkey.

b) Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev offered to dismantle the missiles in Cuba in exchange for certain promises from the United States.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a tense face-off between America, led by President John F. Kennedy and the Soviet Union, led by Nikita Khrushchev, in October of 1962, over the placement of Soviet missiles on the island of Cuba, close to the United States home territory. It is often stated that this moment was the closest the USA and the USSR ever came to the eruption of an actual nuclear war between the two superpowers.
