In "Arrangement in Black and White," the reader can recognize that the woman is racist.

Even though the woman believes African-American musician, Walter Williams, is very talented, she can't help by stated that she is "untroubled" by the color of his skin. In her attempt to not sound racist, her constant comments stating she isn't, leads the reader to believe otherwise.

Reread paragraphs 1-6 and summarize how the narrator feels about leaving Russia and immigrating to the United States. How does s
Katen [24]

This question is about the article "America and I".

When reading between paragraphs 1-6, we can see that when leaving Russia, the author has the concept of "American dream" alive. This is because the author lived an life of oppression and few resources in Russia. The author allows the reader to understand that her life in Russia was limited, small, without opportunities and sad, but that would change in America. For the author, America was the land of freedom, opportunity and hope. She felt that America would offer her everything that Russia denied her and that in America she would work, express herself, be happy, do the things she wanted and be fully accomplished, in addition to being allowed to follow her dreams and enjoy the her life as she wanted.

What does Johnsy’s dialogue in paragraph 48 reveal about her attitude?
Irina18 [472]

In the story, The Last Leaf, Johnsy and Sue paint pictures together. Johnsy has been diagnosed with pneumonia and their visit to the doctor proves that she will die soon.

Explanation:

This story gradually moves from a very usual, routine life of two young girls to individuals, where one who want to fight for making an other feel better and worthy to live, while another seems to fail to understand what it actually is to fight the disease/illness.

Here, when Old Behrman paints a leaf outside for Johnsy, that is when she realizes that she must fight and defeat the illness, rather letting it defeat her.

Sue and Old Behrman's idea of making Johnsy realize what it takes to be alive, takes away Behrman's life at the end as he catches pneumonia too, because of the cold weather he was standing in while painting the leaf for Johnsy.

To give in to illness in the beginning but realizing how important it is to be resilient, is what we learn from this story.
