Allegory is a literary device which has hidden meaning in it.  An allegory is a narrative in which the characters and events represent an abstract idea hidden inside them. The meaning especially is either of a moral or a political one. In the given excerpt, the old woman was very generous and kind towards the traveler without any selfish or greed. Hence, it was because of her generous nature that the traveler asked her to have any of her wish fulfilled by him. The moral of the excerpt is that goods deeds are always rewarded.
