A free verse is more of what they want to write so they can say what they want in it they can truly express themselves, as a formal sonnet you cant as much you have to handicap your writing to certain limits so it is appropriate for the audience.

As a free verse poem is not limited by regular meter or rhythm, a poet can fully express himself in the same way. There is nothing between him and his artistic expression. Rhyme scheme rules can't hold his creativity and imagination. Beauty of writing can still be expressed using pauses and natural rhytmical phrases. Sometimes accepted rules and norms in society make us feel caged, getting rid of those barriers can help us express our full humanity. This is a good way for a poet to do so.

Subject in this context means 'servant'. Laertes is pointing out that Hamlet is bound to act in a certain way based on his birth and status.

Carve in this context means 'decide'. Again, Laertes is explaining that Hamlet can't make his own decisions to do whatever he wants because he is bound to the throne and the requirements of being the King one day.
