He stops at the ocean’s edge, smiles almost shyly, as if he fears disturbing her, and stretches out a colossal hand. His blue ey

es are like lasers in the night. The beams bounce off his fingernails, five hard blue shields. They scan the beach, illuminating shells and sleeping gulls, then focus on her. The porch turns blue, ultraviolet. Her hands, too, are blue. Celia squints through the light, which dulls her eyesight and blurs the palms on the shore. Which of the following is an example of a hyperbole? “smiles almost shyly, as if he fears disturbing her” “and stretches out a colossal hand” “His blue eyes are like lasers in the night.” “The porch turns blue, ultraviolet.”

Answer: An example of hyperbole is "and streches out a colossal hand".

Explanation:<u> </u><u>Hyperbole is a figure of speech that consists in using exaggeration in a statement which does not have to be taken literally but figuratively</u>. This literary device is mainly used in poetry to put the emphasis on a particular element or idea. In the case of the fragment provided (<u>"and streches a colossal hand"</u>), <u>the focus of attention is on the element "hand" since it has been premodified by the adjective "colossal", which means huge or enormous</u>. In that way, "colossal" is giving the fragment an exaggerated tone.

zalisa [80]
When I was travelling in Mexico, on my own, recently graduated from university, on my way to Central and South America, and I was in Mexico City, I wanted to see the ruins of Teotihuacan but didn't know how to get there and my Spanish was rather limited as I was just learning to speak it. So in the streets behind the Zocalo cathedral, I asked some small kids how to get there, but I pronounced it something like Tee oh tee wa can and they both giggled and after I explained I wanted to see the pyramids they said that is Tay oh tee wacan is the correct pronounciation so that is an example of how I learned my Spanish and Indian names on my trip. The told me where to get the bus.

Word switching / paraphrasing:

Using someone's words partially (taking parts of sentences or words) into your document is called word switching or paraphrasing. Changing the sequence of someone's word and using them into your document without mentioning the original source is called word switching.
