In this excerpt from the poem "Thanatopsis" by William Cullen Bryant, what is the meaning of the word list? Of the stern agony,

and shroud, and pall, And breathless darkness, and the narrow house, Make thee to shudder and grow sick at heart;-- Go forth, under the open sky, and list To Nature's teachings, while from all around-- Earth and her waters, and the depths of air-- Comes a still voice--Yet a few days, and thee The all-beholding sun shall see no more lean desire force spread

desire

The excerpt start with talking about death and then switches to being free "under the open sky". The speaker says to "list To Nature's teachings". If we were to do the best synonym for list in this phrase we would choose listen. However, listen is not an option. We need to think about why one is being asked to listen. The goal here is for the audience to desire the knowledge that Nature has to offer.

Elena-2011 [213]

Nonverbal communication strategies applied for the following situations:

1. You want to impress a group of friends about your expertise in basketball. In this case, I would imitate the movements by means of gestures and mimes so as to demonstrate my knowledge about this sport.

2. You want to control a conversation in a classroom or club group discussion. In addition, I would use my hands to point at someone, to control the talking time or to establish turn takings.

Processing Questions
Rama09 [41]

This question is incomplete. Here's the complete question.

Recall and write a situation where you were so happy, proud, and satisfied with your school performance. It can be a high rating for a well-done project, wonderful performance task, group work, or even a high score in exams in the previous levels or quarters. Try to remember your feelings, reactions, and if there were simple celebrations or acts of joy you had. Try to capture that moment as you write it on a piece of paper to be followed by your answers to the processing questions.

Processing Questions

1.How did you feel after the activity?

2.what made the situation possible?

3.what specific things or actions did you do to be in that moment?

Answer:

I´ve never been good at mathematics, so I was terribly worried to have low grades as usual in the last exam, as it could affect my overall performance at school. So I decided to ask for help from some of my classmates. Actually, it was more of an invitation to study together. And, to my surprise, it worked wonders! Being able to work together with them, gave me the confidence, as well as the knowledge I needed, to get a great score for the first time in my life! To show my gratitude, I took my classmates for lunch after the exam, and they were very pleased.

Explanation:

1. I felt like anything was possible, as long as I can prepare and ask for help.

2. The situation was only possible because of my classmates being open and kind enough to accept my proposal to study together.

3. I had to acknowledge my lack of skills for the exam and my need for help. I had to be brave enough to ask for help from classmates that were not my friends and could have said no. And finally, I had to study more than ever before.
