Answer: Artista means artist

Explanation:

When it comes to Linguistics, "cognate" is used to refer to words that either have the same origin and root, or that have derived from one another.

In the English language, it is very common for words that were originated from Latin to look like their counterparts in Latin languages, such as Spanish, French, and Portuguese.  That's what happens to "artista" and "artist". Both words come from the same origin and, thus, look and sound very similar.

Another example of a cognate would be the verbs "determine" in English and "determinar" and Portuguese. They both come from the same Latin root, "determinare".
