In summary it was an incredibly secret project and took a very long time because it was something that had never been done before. The scientists who worked on it were skeptical because at first they thought of it just as an experiment and a scientific breakthrough. Then when the first test happened and it was revealed what this bomb could really do the scientists truly realized what they had created. It did so much damage and because of that they started to become skeptical of their creation. It would kill (and did) millions. As Oppenheimer would later put it after the bombing of Hiroshima to president Truman, “I have the blood of millions on my hands.”
