Ray Kroc was born in Oak Park, Illinois, on October 5, 1902. He was of Austria-Hungarian origin and spent most of his childhood in Oak Park. At the age of 15, Ray lied about his age to become a Red Cross ambulance driver during the First World War. After which he tried his hand at various other jobs between 1918 and early 1950s. These includes paper cup salesman, pianist, jazz musician and a local DJ at Oak Park radio station. Eventually he became a sales person for a multi-mixer milkshake machine and started traveling around the country. It was during this time when he met the MacDonald brothers (Richard and Maurice MacDonald) who owned a then small restaurant fast food chain called MacDonald’s. Ray was surprised at the effectiveness of their operation. They produced a limited menu, concentrating on just a few items—burgers, fries and beverages—which allowed them to focus on quality at every step.

Read the excerpt from chapter 10 of Animal Farm.
Dmitrij [34]

Naïve citizens allow corrupt governments.

In literature, situational irony creates a contrast between what the readers might expect and what actually happens in the text. The goal is to shed light on the difference between appearances and the reality, with regard to a particular theme.

Here, the irony is that even though the farm produces more and gains more money, the animals who worked for this progress to happen are not getting the profits of this improvement. All the money goes to the hands of the ruling class (the pigs and the dogs), because the other animals are naïve enough to believe that the rulers' "supervision and organisation" work is enough to justify this unfair wealth distribution.

The Wizard of Oz and War of the Worlds were both escapist fantasies. How were they alike and different?
Bad White [126]

                                          Similarities and difference

Both the Wizard of Oz and the the War of Worlds are fictional and escapist stories that put you right in the feet of the main characters and experience a world that is far from real.

In the Wizard of Oz, you follow Dorthy and her magical friends who help her along in her journey. In War of the Worlds, you see the invasion of earth by advanced aliens and experience the raw emotions of that character, his survival instincts and the danger he experiences.

However, apart from the similarities, they are actually very different. Wizard of Oz can be described as a family-friendly story that kids would love. However, War of Worlds is full of violence, blood, and gore. The tone is far more serious and suitable for adults.
