<span>Competition would be a major reason why one organism might not settle on top of another. The lack of food that may result from having two organisms so close together may not be beneficial to either, and would lead to a lowered population of both.</span>

A factor which can limit settlement on top of living organisms is the shape of the original living organisms. For example if it tunicate, rounded or tall.

Some other factor which might limit settlement include,

1. Competition- this may dominate a community, exclude other species or monopolize resources.

2. Predation of large predators may reduce the population of size. This allows many organisms to persis.

3. Rates of disturbance. If species are disturbed they provide an open space and prevent dominance by those competitors which are superior.

The large central vacuole would become dehydrated, because without enough water stored in it, there wouldn't be any turgor pressure (water pushing against the cell wall) to support the cell, which causes the plant to wilt.
