Men came inside our house

Carrying a hammock with someone in it.

The man in the hammock looked so pale.

I just then realized it was my father

But he was so pale and lifeless.

I stood at the corner speechless.

Then the rest was a blur…

I don’t remember what I did.

The next image I saw was a man

Dressed in white shirt and black pants

Lying stiffly on a bed.

He looked dark and bloated

So different from the pale body in the hammock.

What did they do to my father?

Who was that man lying on the bed?

Years later, I saw a picture of the man on the bed.

My mother kept it hidden because it looked so different.

They said it was a picture of my Dad

But I couldn’t believe it was him.

He looked so different from the man in the hammock.

What could have happened to his body in just a few hours?

Was it replaced by this hideous corpse lying solitary and still?

How does the speaker’s description of flowers develop the meaning of the poem
vagabundo [1.1K]

This question is incomplete, here´s the complete question

Read Identity, by Julio Noboa

How does the speaker’s description of flowers develop the meaning of the poem?

The speaker views the existence of flowers as more limited than the life of a weed.

The speaker views the existence of flowers as more free than the life of a weed.

The speaker views the existence of flowers as an appreciation to humans.

The speaker views the existence of flowers as an inconvenience to humans.

Answer: The speaker views the existence of flowers as more limited than the life of a weed.

Explanation:

As the title indicates, identity is the main theme of this poem, as well as the freedom of maintaining one´s individuality.

Polanco presents the life of flowers as limited in the sense that they are bound to a pot that restrains them, and they grow surrounded by other identical flowers. This could be a metaphor about those who obey the commands of a constraining society.

Unlike flowers, a weed, although ugly and foul-smelling, grows free, such as a person who preserves individual freedoms.

Read the excerpt from Outcasts United. Perhaps no one in Clarkston was as excited to hear about the free soccer program as eight
Ivanshal [37]

Answer:

D. Jeremiah wants to join the soccer program.

Explanation:

Outcast United by Warren St. John tells the story of Luma al-Mufleh, a Jordanian national who came to the United States to escape her country's strict regulations on girls. Later, she would become a soccer coach for the Fugees, a football club she founded for the refugee kids in and around Clarkston, Georgia.

The given excerpt is about the Ziaty family who had come from Liberia to escape the civil war. But due to her inability to feel safe, the mother Beatrice Ziaty ordered her kids to not venture out of the house ever. So, the three kids were all cooped up in the house all day. The start of the football program excites the kids, especially Jeremiah who was eager to be part of the free program. Moreover, he was eager to be going out of the house to do what he loves best. Thus, we can conclude that Jeremiah wants to be part of the soccer program.
