colloquialism, local color, regional realism

Colloquialism is the use of common words to a specific region. The excerpt does not use standard English. A few examples are passin', gittin, pardner, sich.

Regional realism and local color both are types of literature that focus on the culture and people of a certain area. In the excerpt there is information about the location, the characters and the weather. All indicating regional realism and local color.

There is no social context in this excerpt. We do not really know how the character is reacting to something.
