Sensory receptors are dendrites of sensory neurons specialized for receiving kinds of stimuli.
i) Chemoreceptors are sensory receptors that detects the presence of chemicals; responsible for taste, smell, and monitoring the concentration of certain chemicals in body fluids. They are essential to the maintenance of homeostasis as they constantly monitor minute changes in the relative concentrations of both lipid and water soluble compounds dissolved in the fluids that surround them.

ii) Photoreceptor are sensory receptors that detects light; located in the retina of the eye. They have great biological importance in converting light which is visible electromagnetic radiation into signals that can stimulate biological process. A process called visual phototransduction.

iii) Mechanoreceptors are sensory receptors that respond to a bending or deformation of the cell; For example receptors for touch, pressure, hearing and equilibrium. The mechanical deformation transmitted by the receptors include, joint rotation due to position change and motion, into electrical signals.

iv) Nociceptor is a sensory receptor that responds to tissue damage , pain receptors. This type of receptor at the end of sensory neuron's axon that responds to damaging or potentially damaging stimuli by sending possible threat signals to the spinal cord and the brain (central nervous system).

v) Thermoreceptor is a sensory neuron that detects changes in temperatures. It is a non-specialized sense receptor, or the receptive portion of a sensory  neuron, that codes absolute relative changes in temperature, primarily within the innocuous range.

If natural selection has no foresight, how can it explain features that seem to prepare organisms for future events? for example
Nezavi [6.7K]

The genes in a population give forth the genetic variability across a population (genotypes). In addition, occasional mutations of these genes in a population increase this genetic variability. Hovever, natural selection only favours reproduction of individuals with genes that are favourable in the environment/habitat. Therefore, natural selection has no foresight but is rather pegged on being an ‘opportunistic’ process.

Which term describes the breaking down of body cells or substances?
Alex777 [14]
The term which describes the breaking down of body cells or substance is CATABOLISM.
The metabolic processes which occur in living things are of two types, these are anabolic and catabolic processes. The anabolic process involves the building up of needed materials in the body while the catabolic process involves the breaking down of waste materials in the body in order to eliminate them through excretion.
