Excerpt from Plugged In, but Tuned Out: The Evil Influence of Ear Buds Darrell Thomas I. Invasion of the Body Snatchers: Have yo

u noticed a change in the world around you recently? Have you seen how more and more people are walking around with little rectangles in their hands or pockets with long wires plugged straight into their ears? At the grocery store yesterday, I counted at least twenty people completely lost in the music provided by their ever-present cell phones. It’s as if the old science-fiction movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers was coming true; we are being overtaken by pod people. So at the risk of appearing to be a crotchety old man complaining about the “good ole days,” I have to make a stance against the evil influences of the cell phone and ear-bud phenomena on our society. Which BEST describes the details related to the main idea in section one? A) The author provides a quote from an expert to support his idea. B) The author provides a personal example and a quote from an expert to support his idea. C) The author provides a personal example and a reference to a movie to support his idea. D) The author provides a quote from an expert and a reference to a movie to support his idea.

<span>C) The author provides a personal example and a reference to a movie to support his idea.

He provides a personal anecdote of being in the store and noticing how many people had ear buds and were listening to music on their phones.

Then he references the film "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" to continue making his point.</span>

The answer is:

C) The author provides a personal example and a reference to a movie to support his idea.

<em>"At the grocery store yesterday, I counted at least twenty people...It’s as if the old science-fiction movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers was coming true;"</em>

In this excerpt the author states that based on his personal experience and a reference to the movie, he tries to make a statement about how allienatic cellphones can be.

How is the word choice regarding the parents’ surname significant in sleeping
Svetach [21]

Answer:

Explanation:

<u>Winter symbolizes cold, still, fruitless time of no change, when things aren't born, renewed, or changed.</u>

By naming the two characters, Mr. and Mrs. Winter by this season, the writer symbolizes the coldness and childlessness in their life. It seems that they lost the child, but they approached the grief from the calculated, rational point -<u> not acknowledging the loss and emotions, and continuing to act rationally on the outside as if nothing is happening.</u>

<u>This can be connected to the coldness and stillness of the winter, the snow that covers all the flora and vegetation, and seems to last forever in the icy embrace. </u>

Seven-year-old Sangram is not allowed to touch the TV remote. Nevertheless, he uses the remote to change the volume from level 1
GenaCL600 [577]

Answer:

It was only 2 units up.

Explanation:

A small increase in the volume would no alert the father of Sangram who is one room away, because that change would only be noticeable for Sangram who is in the same room, but when he doubled the volume from 15 to 30, it was more obvious for his father, one room away, that Sangram was using the remote control and that he was changing the volume in the TV.
