To be a substantiated opinion, you must have evidence to back it up or be able to point to something to back it up.

Answer: A. The writer states a fact that can be checked by simply going to the large computer company and seeing where is began.

You would need a lot more evidence to prove that small businesses are the reason America has a strong economy.

Option "C" cannot be backed up with a specific fact easily.

Letter "D" would be a more generic statement.

The best option is "A"

One of the largest computer companies began in a garage

* Jeff Bezos started the company from his own garage (Amazon)

* Bill Gates and Paul Allen started Microsoft, they had a small garage and very little resources to work with (Microsoft)

* Disney's first film studio was Walt Disney's uncle's garage.(Disney)

Which sentence contains a misplaced modifier? The dog catcher said he would return our dog on Saturday. My uncle served steaks o
Alinara [238K]
Let us first define the meaning of misplaced modifier; it is a word, clause, or phrase that is improperly placed in a sentence which make it refer or modify an unintended word.
The first, second, and third sentences that are given above sound correct because their modifiers are placed just right.  Only the fourth sentence sounded awkwardly and confusing, because the clause "who lives in New York" is improperly separated from the subject "My aunt", which must be described in the first place, and not the "holidays".

The sentence will sound and can be understood better if it is written this way,

"My aunt, who lives in New York, is coming home for the holidays."

What do you think Johnson’s perspective is on change in the English language? Does he think it is good or bad? Does he think it
fomenos
  1. Johnson thinks that change in the English language is good. He thinks that the man who spends his time thinking will come up with good ideas and these will need new words. He also refers to the men who do not have much time to speculate but will turn ideas into popular opinions; these will also create new practices and, as a result,  new words will be created. These ideas are from these lines : "Those who have much leisure to think ....... proportion as it alters practice."
  2. He thinks language change should not be stopped. " As by the cultivation of various sciences, a language is amplified, it will be more furnished with words deflected from their original sense..". Johnson thinks that change cannot be stopped, though. There are many factors, internal and external, that make language change. He says that he will not be able to comply with what many schoolars have asked from him: to stop any language alteration.
