Part A What is the author's point of view toward Azy's vocabulary mistake in "The Think Tank"? O The mistake is a major setback
Goryan [66]

Answer:

A) The correct answer is C) the mistake helpfully reveals the way Azy's mind works.

B) The correct option is D) "Maybe this can teach us a little bit about how he thinks."

Explanation:

A) Azy - an Orangutan in captivity which is being used for experiments in the behaviour of primates, especially learning, is presented with a bag containing food.

Azy is given options on a screen to select from, and instead of picking food, he picks another symbol which represents a container.

According to the researchers, the right answer would have been the symbol which connotes food. However, Shumaker is elated to note that the Orangutans have the ability to put things into categories.

B) In the last paragraph of the excerpt, Shumaker states that in his opinion, the mistake shows that Azy in his mind is learning or can put objects into categories and that that by itself could be a pointer to how Orangutans think.

Cheers

Core English Language Ans 10 B (Prescriptive)
lbvjy [14]

Answer:

The best effective thesis statements are both the first ("Hollembeak's review of the high school's play is fun and entertaining to read") and third ("In her editorial, Mellie writes convincingly of the need for high school classes to begin later in the morning") options.

Explanation:

The first and third statements are the only ones which state a convincing thesis about an argument. Both of them are informative about what is the object argued and present a clear idea of the main point made on that. Second option does not apply to the question because it is lacking in some way, because though it is informative and sets an idea of the argument, it is very broad to state "the play's action [is] in the 21st century". Fourth option does apply to the question as well because it is not a thesis, that is just exploring the content of an argument made, clarifying ideas for readers. And fifth option does not apply to the question too, because it is not a thesis, that is just a description of an information previously given, it only characterizes an informative statement, not an effective thesis.

Match the fallacy type to the statement that illustrates it.
valkas [14]

The fallacy of logos is "the last time it rained, our local sports team won. It is raining today, so they will win tonight". It's logos because in order to persuade a target audience it uses a statement empowered by logic. The logical reasoning suggests that if the last time the match was played was raining and they won, now that it's raining again, the will win again. The logical thought is that when it rains, the local team wins.

The fallacy of pathos is "If we don't pass this environmental protection bill now, the world will probably end soon". It's pathos because this fallacy tries to persuade by provoking certain emotions or feelings to readers. In this way, the statement is more appalling to the reader and it feels more emotionally attached to it. By talking about the end of the world, the writer is trying to evoke feelings of awareness, sorrow and frightening. So by provoking these feelings, readers may become more aware and concerned about the environmental changes that the human kind needs to make now in order to prevent the complete destruction of our world.

The fallacy of ethos is "My favorite teacher said that we should vote for Mr.Martinez, so I believe he is the best". It's ethos because the writer is convincing people by the credibility or authority of the speaker. In this case, the teacher represents a credible and respectful figure. So the reader decides to vote for whom the teacher said just because THE teacher said that.
