I will use the example of The Lottery:

The Lottery is the story that uses fear most effectively. One of the reasons why the story is so successful is because of the contrast it creates between peaceful, pretty towns with common citizens and extreme cruelty. In The Lottery, most of the characters you meet are very common, and you can imagine your friend and neighbours being part of the story.

The story is also frightening because it contains elements of horror, such as suspense. The lottery is successful in creating suspense because it foreshadows the events carefully. For example, it does so by showing the box where the ballots are kept. This box is clearly obsolete, but it has a menacing presence and a powerful effect on the audience.

Finally, The Lottery is particularly successful because it shows the lengths that people are willing to go to in order to preserve traditions and respond to social pressure. This is scary because it shows a situation that could easily take place in the real world.

I would say cask of amontillado because fortunado is unaware of what amontillado is really bringing him down to the catacombs for but it sure isn’t a glass of wine. The reader knows something that the character doesn’t making the story more suspenseful.

Hopefully that helped a little!

What similarities do you see between Angelica Schuyler and Abigail Adams ?
mezya [45]

Answer:

1. They were smart and self-confident women

2. They had an insight and say in the political affairs of their day.

3. They were both home-schooled.

Explanation:

Abigail Adams was the wife of John Adams, the First Vice President and Second President of the United States of America. She was an outstanding woman and supportive wife who managed the home front while her husband was away fighting for the revolution and independence of America in Congress. She corresponded a lot with her husband through letters and in some of these letters, she made her input on the political affairs of the day. She also put forward women's interests in most of those letters.

Abigail Schuyler was also a smart woman. She was the elder sister to Elizabeth Hamilton. She was learned and had insights into the political affairs of her day. Her discussions with Alexander Hamilton, the husband to her sister, whom she was equally interested in revealed that she was intelligent and was aware of th political events in those days.
