Answer: I would contend that the right answer is actually the A) see what living without things looks like.

Explanation: Just to elaborate a little on the answer, it can be added that this story, which in spite of having been written in 1917 is truly and surprisingly on trend, is about the author's struggle and wish to live without material things, or with as few of them as possible. The empty little house beside the sea is an example of her longing. She describes it, as well as the overwhelming freedom and rest that she felt, in order to help the reader visualize and reflect upon what living without material things looks like.

madam [21]

This short story is called “Sweat”, written by Zora Neale Hurston.

Question: How does the author's characterization of Bertha help reveal Delia's attitude toward Sykes' affairs?

Answer: C. By describing only Bertha's negative characteristics, the author hints at Delia's confidence in her own desirability as a wife.

Delia had for some time already been fed up with her no-good husband and she knew that she was the breadwinner in the home, so in fact she did not need him to live happily ever after. Therefore, she was confident in her own desirability as a wife.
