Pratap’s chief ambition was to catch fish. He managed to waste a lot of time this way, and might be seen almost any afternoon so

employed. It was thus most often that he met Subha. Whatever he was about, he liked a companion; and, when one is trying to catch fish, a silent companion is best of all. Pratap respected Subha for her taciturnity, and, as everyone called her Subha, he showed his affection by calling her Su. How does the author develop Pratap’s character in this passage? through others’ dialogue about the character through the character’s point of view and attitude through direct statements and description through his use of style and structure

I think the author's development of Pratap's character in the story in the given excerpt above would be seen through the writer's use of the character's point of view and attitude. It can be clearly seen that Pratap didn't like people that much and preferred a taciturn companion with the hobby he had which is fishing.

The Crucible  by Arthur Miller is story about John Proctor who confesses to all his crimes in the court. He accepts his affair with Abigail and even for doing witchcraft. But, at the end he says "I have given you my soul; leave me my name!”. By this he meant that a person takes his whole life to build a reputation in the society. 777dan777 [17]
From the excerpt given above, 'fits in' as used in this passage means to feel comfortable and acceptable in a place, thus the correct option is A. An idiom is a group of words that is not taken literally, that is, their meaning can not be deduced from those of individual word. 'Fit in' as an idiom means to be comfortable with something or someone, to be in harmony with that thing.

In paragraph 12, Turkle begins an extended metaphor: little “sips” of online connection. What does Turkle's metaphor describe?
zubka84 [21]

Answer:

Professor Sherry Turkle's little "sips" of online connection is a metaphor that describes the little "pieces" of conversation that we are having by using technological devices.

Explanation:

MIT Professor, Sherry Turkle, PhD, and a licensed clinical psychologist, with a joint doctorate in sociology and psychology, notes that people are now avoiding the necessary conversations that we ought to be having with one another because we are "plugged-in" to various technological devices.  In her write-up in the New York Times of April 21, 2012 titled "The Flight from Conversation," Professor Sherry Turkle urges people not to "sacrifice conversation for mere connection."  Since we are technology-enabled, she declares that we should make the best use of it to remain conversationally connected to others whether they are near or far, but must still bring ourselves to enjoy the indispensable face-to-face conversations with our fellow human beings.
