Drag the tiles to the boxes to form correct pairs. Not all tiles will be used. Match each word or phrase to the appropriate mean
Marrrta [24]

Your question is missing the options. I've found the complete question online. It is as follows:

Drag the tiles to the boxes to form correct pairs. Not all tiles will be used.

Match each word or phrase to the appropriate meaning based on its context in this excerpt from Mark Twain's "The £1,000,000 Bank-Note":

Then he was restored to his normal condition, and made a thousand apologies for not being able to break the bill, and I couldn't get him to touch it. He wanted to look at it, and keep on looking at it; he couldn't seem to get enough of it to quench the thirst of his eye, but he shrank from touching it as if it had been something too sacred for poor common clay to handle. I said:

"I am sorry if it is an inconvenience, but I must insist. Please change it; I haven't anything else."

But he said that wasn't any matter; he was quite willing to let the trifle stand over till another time. I said I might not be in his neighborhood again for a good while; but he said it was of no consequence, he could wait, and, moreover, I could have anything I wanted, any time I chose, and let the account run as long as I pleased. He said he hoped he wasn't afraid to trust as rich a gentleman as I was, merely because I was of a merry disposition, and chose to play larks on the public in the matter of dress.

A) Small amount

B) Canceling agreement

C) Ordinary man

D) Giving change

E) Play mischief

F) Tricks

G) Common tradition

H) Young people

breaking the bill=

common clay=

trifle=

larks=

Answer:

breaking the bill –> D. giving change

common clay–> C. ordinary man

trifle –> A. small amount

larks –> F. tricks

Explanation:

In the excerpt, we have two characters talking about a  £1,000,000 bank-note. The narrator wants the other character to "break the bill", which means he wants to be given smaller bills or coins (change) for it. The other character, however, doesn't even dare touch the bill. He thinks of himself as "common clay", just an ordinary man who shouldn't even dream to touch such a large amount of money. That much money makes the food the narrator has just eaten seem like a mere "trifle", of little value, no importance. Now the narrator is seen as someone who plays "larks", who does tricks without the intention of harming someone, but who is also very rich and should be respected for that.

What does the word promotion mean within the context of the article Jim Crow laws
Marizza181 [45]

One of the aspects of life that Jim Crow laws regulated was the fact that they forbade the "promotion of equality."

In this context, such promotion referred to the printing, publishing, or claiming that social equality was a desirable goal, or that intermarriage should be allowed. This was punished as a misdemeanor and required the payment of a hefty fine.

"Precise communication at the right place, the right time, can guarantee success" explanation
mario62 [17]

Answer:

Explanation:

Hi, so there's probably a lot of different interpretations about this. The way I think about it is that if you communicate smoothly and clearly. Most of the time, people will understand what saying a lot easier. In contrast, if you don't,  it makes it much more difficult to understand concepts sometimes.

Hope this helps you out! Have a great day c:

Read this excerpt from "Crossing the Bar" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Which two lines are examples of a dependent clause?
barxatty [35]

Answer:

The correct answer is B)

Explanation:

A) First, a clause is an incomplete sentence or a group of words that can't stand alone or one that does not have meaning standing by itself.

B) Furthermore, it must have a verb and a subject.

A verb, if you recall is an action word while a subject is "<em>the person or thing being referred to</em>".

Looking at the clauses in option B we can see that they both meet the above conditions.

Let's see clause one - "<em>And may there be no </em><u><em>moaning</em></u><em> of t</em><u><em>he bar</em></u><em>, "</em>

It is clear that the verb here is "moaning" while the subject is "the Bar".

It's clear to see that these group of words meet the conditions given in A and B above because left by themselves, they make no meaning.

Let's take a look at the second clause:

"<em>When I put out to sea</em>,"

"I" here is the subject. It is a pronoun. A pronoun is simply a word that can be used instead of the noun. That is a noun can easily but inserted in the place of "I". Hence, we have "I" as the subject.

"<em>Put Out</em>"  here is a verb which means to relocate.

So "When I put out to sea"  also meets the conditions in A and B above.

Cheers!
