The Progressive Era is more often known for its major domestic reforms. Newspapers and print journalism would be a key element in bringing attention to the social damage created by the excesses in previous eras. Clearly, these played an instrumental role in affecting the course of the public’s debate on major issues raising awareness on them and bringing  light to hidden truths.

Moreover, the media played the role of a messenger in relation to social, political, and economic issues. Not only did journalists and writers spread the word of what was happening exposing wrongdoing in politics and business during the Progressive era but also many intrepid reporters talked about social, political, and economic issues and spearheaded a drive for better and more truthful information.

The social, political and economic changes that American went thru the Progressive Era and the Age of the imperialism were influenced by the media.

The American newspaper industry during this started to expand massively, during this time the newspaper in english trippled.

Journalist were out and about to expose the social and political topics in very popular magazines and newspapers, they were also know as ¨muckrakers¨, because they were exposing all this issues of corruption and job explotation, they were semi-ornized journalist and writers group trying to bring this issues above water, they were using unión force, also been supported by the outcry of public opinión. It was a very exposed way to ensure the inmense power of the media in the political, social and economic ¨decisión making¨ in the country.

Technology was a precursor in this topic, because the printing presses were more fast and the efficient transportation, making information more accesible.

Also the magazines start to arise in the 1900´s, the subscribers blow up because of the national advertising.

In one paragraph, compare and contrast the experience of a member of the bourgeoisie with that of a noble in pre-revolutionary F
allochka39001 [22]

The social order of pre-Revolutionary France was composed of three states: the 1st state was made up of clergymen, the 2nd state included all the nobility, and the 3rd state was formed by the rest of the population of France, including the peasantry, the bourgeoisie, and the city workers. The experiences of the nobility and the bourgeoisie were very different during this period. The nobiity included around 1-2% of the population of the country. They were mostly exempt from taxes and for the most part, did not have a job. On the other hand, the bourgeoisie was a large percentage of the population, and carried a significant tax burden. This class was the most educated and wealthiest part of the 3rd State, and they resented the privileges of the nobles, in particular the tax exemptions. The conflict between these classes was a reason for the French Revolution.

Which of these BEST describes the purpose of the Alien and Sedition Acts? A) They prevented people from becoming citizens of the
riadik2000 [5.3K]

D) They were aimed at people who were criticizing President Adams' foreign policy.

Adams was criticized for his neutrality in conflicts between Britain and France as well as how he handled the XYZ Affair. The Alien and Sedition Acts were meant to protect the reputation of the federal government and prevent people with extreme views from entering the country.

The Sedition Act allowed for punishment for those that spoke out against the government. Federalists like John Adams believed negative speech about the government showed weakness of the new government to the world. He believed that the US needed to show support of the government. The Alien Act was put into place to limit the rights of new immigrants entering into the US. Adams was fearful that immigrants would introduce extreme ideas coming out of the French Revolution. The Alien and Sedition Acts were met with fierce resistance and criticism. The critics led by Thomas Jefferson would form the Democratic-Republican Party to counter a growing Federalist power.
