Wow! You now know so much about Peru! Your friend Jordan, however, knows nothing about it. In a few months, his family is going

on a tour of Spanish-speaking countries, including Peru and other South American countries. He has asked you to help him learn more about those places before his trip. His first trip is to Peru.
Write Jordan a three-paragraph letter in English, and compare Peruvian culture and American culture, especially in terms of foods, sports, transportation, population, and demographics. How is your culture similar to Peruvian culture? How is it different? Use a lot of details to help Jordan prepare for the trip, and have fun! You can use the CultureGram link to get ideas and information. (5 points per paragraph)

Before you write, take notes on these questions to help you think of what to tell Jordan.

Hey Jordan,

It's cool that you get to visit Peru. Here are some interesting things about Peru. Peru is twice the size of Texas. Over 25% of the population is younger than the fifteen years old. Also most of the country, 81%, is Roman Catholic.

Some things in Peru are very different from the United States. For example, Peru is more racist. There are instances when some people aren't allowed in to the country because of their ethnicity. Another thing that is different in Peru is close friends often kiss cheeks when greeting one another.

Some things in Peru are a lot like the United States. For example, citizens of Peru and the United States is that both countries have very nationalist thinking. Also, most people in Peru and the US are Christian.

Hey Jordan,

Peru is the third largest country in South America. It is roughly twice the size of the second biggest state in the Unites States, Texas. How's that for size?? Over eighty percent of the population has indigenous heritage. A little over one-fourth of the population is younger than the age of fifteen. When it comes to religion, the majority of Peruvians are Roman Catholic. Roman Catholics make up a whopping eighty one percent of the population. It is also very important that one is punctual when it comes to appointments and other business meetings moreso than other nations.

One of the differences between Peru and America is that Peru is more dicriminatory. There are instances when Indigenous people are denied entry to places simply due to their ethnicity. Another difference is that whether you go to a public or private school, both are nearly always required to wear school uniforms. Finally, when close friends meet they commonly kiss each other on the cheek when meeting and parting.

One of the similarities between Peru and the United States is that both countries are very nationalistic. Both countries take great pride in their country and are very patriotic. Another similarity is that the majority of the population is Christian. The last similarity is that people in Lima and other urban areas tend to wear Western-style clothing.

Have a great trip! Bring me back a souvenir!
