Answer:

  1. Thick as the foliage of the waving wood;
  2. O'er which the gleaming armour pour'd the day,
  3. Dreadful to view, a mighty warrior rose; In the dire deeds of bleeding battle skill'd,

Explanation:

Figurative language is a language that uses words that deviate from their literal meaning, authors often use it to represent something, give readers new insights and make the writing more colorful, interesting and memorable. All three lines contain examples of this type of language because none of them are written literally, but figuratively: Line 1 uses a simile to compare, line 2 uses personification and metaphor to describe the valley and the day, and line 3 uses imagery (a vivid language) to appeal to our sense of sight.

Which of the following excerpts from Joseph Stalin's 1941 radio broadcast would best be classified as incendiary, or designed to
Trava [24]

D. The enemy is crafty, unscrupulous, experienced in deception.

This is the best choice. By calling the enemy crafty, unscrupulous, experienced in deception, Stalin is feeding the hatred the people have for the enemy. He is detailing the traits that are not desired and makes the people feel as though they are justified in their efforts to defeat the enemy. These details are also insulting to the enemy and could also be used to incite the enemy.

Rewrite the scene with Jim and the boy from another point of view.
vovikov84 [41]

The door creaked and a rectangle of light fell onto the magazine that I was reading. I looked up to a boy who had come into the lobby was a stranger, about nineteen, tall and thin.

"Looking for someone?" I asked.

"No," the boy said. His long fingers trembled as they fumbled with the buttons of his coat.

"Well, may I help you with something?"

"No." The boy dropped his coat onto the worn tweed sofa and sat down slowly. In the light from the window his pale cheeks gleamed as if wet.

He's sick, I thought, while walking over to him. A narrow hand reached out and seized my wrist, cold, strong fingers twining around my arm like vines or snakes. I try to fight the impulse to pull away, looking down instead into the boy's troubled, grey eyes.
