Read this sonnet, and then complete the sentences that follow. Sonnet 4 by Edmund Spenser Be not dismayed that her unmoved mind
labwork [276]
The rhyme scheme is ABAB up until the last two lines, which are CC. Rhyme scheme signifies which lines rhyme with each other, depending on the last word in each line. The As correspond with each other, the Bs correspond with each other, and so on.

The main idea of the poem is that one should not to give up pursuing a woman if at first she doesn't seem interested, because when she has finally been won over, her love will last forever. In other words, be patient, because a woman who is not easily wooed will provide the longest form of love.

The poet uses the "metaphor" of burning an oak. A metaphor is a comparison between two seemingly unlike things (in this case a woman/her love and an oak tree) without using the words "like" or "as" (which would make the comparison a simile).

The poet uses the metaphor of a wound to represent how deep love can go ("Deep is the wound, that dints the parts entire With chaste affects, that naught but death can sever").

What was the eye opening experience that Katniss had years back when she eyed a dandelion at the school yard?
dimulka [17.4K]

Answer:

The eye opening experience that Katniss has, after seeing the Dandelion, is that there is still hope, and that her family has a future, even though her father has died, her mother is in a deep depression and she has a younger sister to feed.  Bear in mind, that her family was starving to death(literally) her father (the source of money in the family) had just died, her mother was deeply depressed and unable to be a mother, so Katniss had to become the responsible adult in the family, even when she was only a teenager.

Specifically, <u>the Dandelion makes Katniss realize that she can go to the woods to collect edible plants (like dandelions) and then she starts hunting and she learns how to use a bow expertly, skill that will saver her life in the hunger games. </u>

Later on, Peeta becomes the symbol of the dandelion. (Spoiler alert) She ends up saying that what she needs in her life is <em>"the dandelion on the spring, the bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction, the promise that life can go on no matter how bad our losses". </em>

Which themes are portrayed in this excerpt from Leo Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilyich? Praskovya Fedorovna came of a good famil
Pie
As usual in life, motives can be complicated. The theme of Ivan Illych marrying this woman because of her money and her social position is one possibility that he discusses (she comes from a "good" family and has some property). The other theme is that she is pretty and he fell in love with her and to some extent she complements his views on life. In choosing from the options, re the themes, I would say that a) conforming to social conventions and b) the necessity of companionshp should be the two main themes in this excerpt.
