This time of enlightenment brought people together in a way that allowed everyone to have this form of freedom of speech. This meant that they could voice their opinions about whatever they liked or whatever they disliked. People could see who agreed with them and how their opinions could change the social standards of their time. However, some people did not really like this change in allowing everyone to speak clearly with no consequence as to what they said. For example, the Catholic Church was at the time seen as this sort of oppressor. The Catholic Church did not like that people had individual freedom because they still believed that their way of religion and doing things their way that was correct and that only their way of religion and understanding was correct and true. The Catholic Church was still, in a way, stuck in the old times where people were punished for trying to speak against anyone else's beliefs or understandings. The Catholic Church did not like that people were now all of a sudden allowed to speak freely or against their religion. People who were for everyone being able to speak freely saw that the Catholic Church was very unnecessary and that it was not needed to show whether people were good or bad. Authors of this time sought only to show individuals motivation through their works of art and tried their best to better the society as a whole through education and how to better themselves. Overall this time of enlightenment allowed people with the skill of teaching or the skill of the art to show people that you can speak for yourself and that you have social and civic freedom and that you should bring forth your ideas for the betterment of society as a whole.
