ok so I have no idea but what I do think is that they are talking about how seventeen year olds are crazy because they are young and that they are going to make mistakes and people have to get over it

I strongly believe that is nothing wrong in telling the others that you are seventeen or that you are going to achieve that age. In my opionion, teenagers have to go through different stages in which they feel identified with certain moods. It doesnt mean they are insane but rather, they have what is approppriate for their age. In conclusion, the uncle tried to tell the girls there isn't nothing wrong in telling people that they are almost seventeen.
