Answer:

Explanation:

Water reacts with Carbon dioxide to form Carbonic acid, please see equation below:

H2O (water) + CO2 (carbon dioxide) ⇄ H2CO3 (carbonic acid)

Carbonic acid is a weak acid and some of it dissociates to Hydrogen ions and Hydrocarbonate ions, please see equation below:

H2CO3 (carbonic acid) ⇄ H+ (hydrogen ions) + HCO3-

That is the cell membrane. Think of it as a gate around a city, that is how I remember it. The city is the cell, and the cell membrane is the gate that "protects" the city, and controls what can enter and exit.

Without digestive enzymes, you would likely die from starvation waiting for your food to break down into small molecules. Why do
Serjik [45]

Answer: Enzymes lower the activation energy found in food molecules

Explanation:

Food substances like yam, potatoes, egg etc are all made of chemical elements bounded to one another by chemical bonds such as hydrogen bonds, covalent bonds etc

During digestion, these bonds must be broken for carbohydrates to yield glucose, protein to yield amino acids.

Hence, added enzymes lowers the strength of this bonds i.e activation energy, by placing them into their active sites, which is equipped to cleave specific bonds

Thus, digestive reactions are quicker in the presence of enzymes than otherwise.
